Is this your first time at the drive-in theatre? You’re going to have a great time. Movies start at dusk, not an exact time. It’s when the sun is setting and it’s dark enough to see the movie screen. The later in the summer you go, the later the movie will start. Don’t worry about arriving too early – there is no such things when you are talking about the drive-in movies. People get there up to 2 hours beforehand to secure their prime spots. Sounds crazy right? Don’t let it stress you. We go to the hamilton drive-in movie theatre get there about 45 minutes early and still get a great spot.

Cars with hatchbacks often park backwards and movie-goers sit in their trunks to watch. Pickup trucks reverse in, too. Their passengers often bring camping chairs to sit in the truck bed. Do what feels right for you! The movie sound is played through a dedicated radio station that is unique to each drive-in theatre. It will be posted all over the place, so you won’t miss it. Some theatres like the 5 Drive-In in Oakville play double features – two movies for the price of one! Concessions are ll part of the drive-in theatre fun, but if your kids prefer food from home (or if you have dietary/allergy restrictions) you can also bring snacks with you. And don’t forget to wear your pyjamas to help make a smooth transition from the car to bed. That goes for adults, too (haha!)
