Join In The Fun At The GBTC Theatre Arts Program! GBTC's Theatre Arts Program offers performance-oriented theatre programs for students from ages 6 through 13. The regular school year runs from September to April. We offer twelve-week sessions, on weekdays or on Saturdays. All class sizes are limited to fourteen; register early to reserve your place ! Our program is designed so that each class covers new, exciting and challenging content. Intermediate Program / Ages 9 to 13 A great way to express your creative side, have fun & meet friends Intermediate classes are one hour and thirty minutes and include work on short plays / scripted work, play creation, improvisation, musical theatre, mime, stage combat, reader's theatre, commercials, public speaking, mask-making, costume design, character development, theatre games / exercises, stage set and lighting design. Strategy and problem solving skills are gained through active involvement in scripted plays and dramatic scenes, as well as through playwriting. Stage presence is built through the use of such tools as tableaux, stage blocking and direction. The students learn technical terms to communicate ideas in dramatic context. They are encouraged to use their imaginations to create fun movement routines, free-style improvisations and dance choreographies set to music. Vocal spontaneity and clarity is expressed through songs, choral pieces and vocal exercises. They include a variety of fun activities, including acting out short plays, role-playing, improvisation, mime, creative movement, mask-making, storytelling, and fun theatre games and exercises. Through these activities, children learn to think creatively, as well as empathize with and gain an understanding of others. Instructors will guide them in exploring their imaginations and in expressing feelings through drama. Short movement routines set to music help develop physical coordination and introduce each child to musical and listening skills. Through vocal exercises and songs the students learn to speak with clarity, and gain in overall personal confidence, contributing to the growth of public speaking and leadership skills.
