If you’re looking for a weekend that feels BIG, exciting, and packed with non-stop fun, it’s hard to beat Niagara Falls. We’ve put together a brand new Niagara Falls itinerary to help families like you get the most out of their next visit.
Between the thundering falls, bright lights of Clifton Hill, and kid-approved attractions, this is one of those trips that feels like a full vacation — without going far.
Here’s your done-for-you Niagara Falls family weekend plan.
Weekend Snapshot
- Drive Time: ~1–1.5 hours from Halton
- Best for Ages: 4+
- Ideal Stay: 1–2 nights
- Budget: $$–$$$
- Rain Backup: Yes (see below)

🛏️ Where to Stay in Niagara Falls (Family-Friendly Hotels)
Wyndham Grand Fallsview Hotel
We’ve stayed here a few times and have had great experiences.
Why families love it:
- Indoor pool and game room.
- Option to book a falls view or a city view where you can watch the exotic cars drive up to the casino entrance!
- Steps to the falls and Clifton Hill.
Cairn Croft Hotel
Stay right where the action is — and walk everywhere.
Why it’s a great pick:
- Large indoor pool, indoor garden patio and arcade.
- Smaller hotel that is very family-friendly.
- Steps from Clifton Hill attractions and popular chain restaurants.
Book a Rental in Niagara Falls
We love a VRBO or AirBNB for the convenience and homey-ness they offer. Plus, it saves you on meals if you can do some prep at the rental instead of eating out.
🎉 Things to Do in Niagara Falls with Kids
1. Boat Ride to the Falls
Get up close (and a little soaked!) on Hornblower Niagara Cruises. This is a core Niagara experience — and kids LOVE it. Heck, even our Grandma loved it! It’s something you do once and probably only once, but worth it.
👉 Book tickets in advance to skip the lines
2. Journey Behind the Falls
Head down tunnels to stand right beside the rushing water at Journey Behind the Falls. This is an essential stop for every Niagara Falls itinerary. It’s loud, exciting, and unforgettable.
3. Clifton Hill Fun Zone
Bright lights at night, arcade games, rides, and attractions! Clifton Hill is basically kid heaven.
Top picks:
- Niagara SkyWheel gives you an aerial view of the whole city.
- Mini putt – Niagara has indoor mini golf too!
- Arcade games
4. Dino Golf
This is my absolute favourite Niagara Falls activity with kids. This dinosaur-themed mini golf course will make you think you’ve just landed in Jurassic Park. The dinosaurs are massive and even roar. Watch out for that volcano!
Thousands of butterflies, warm air, and peaceful paths — it’s a beautiful break from the crowds.

🍽️ Where to Eat (Local & Family-Friendly)
Zappi’s Pizza
A long-time local favourite that families return to again and again.
Why it works:
- Big portions, ask for a take home container!
- Casual and relaxed.
- Great for picky eaters – pizza, chicken fingers, etc.
Flying Saucer Restaurant
Classic diner fare with an “Area 51” vibe. This is the only guaranteed stop for us every summer because we love the kitchy-ness of it!
What families love:
- Comfort food classics, good prices and large portions.
- Alien decor makes you feel like you’re behind the gates at Area 51.
- Kid-friendly atmosphere that is so fun and freaky
☔ Rainy Day Backup Plan
Butterfly Conservatory
Slow things down with a magical indoor experience at Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory.
Why it’s perfect:
- Thousands of butterflies, warm air, and peaceful paths.
- Unique experience kids will remember. Bring your camera!
- Peaceful break from summer crowds.
Bird Kingdom
Kids and adults will love this immersive experience that gets everyone up close with birds, turtles, snakes and more!
What to expect:
- World’s Largest Free-Flying Indoor Aviary.
- Nocturnal tunnel that is home to owls, tarantulas, and bats.
- Visit Lorikeet Landing and take part in a nectar feeding.
