What We’re Clicking – Links That Caught Our Attention This Week
December 4, 2015 Amber Rohal

Do you know what the big milestone was this week? Apparently December 1st marks the arrival of The Elf on The Shelf. This mom didn’t know that. We semi-subscribe to the new tradition, but we do it a little differently: I’m more frugal, and extra festive. We have an Olaf on the Shelf. He’s just as mass-marketed, but at least I don’t mind looking at him all day, every day. I think the Elf is a little hokey, and my kiddo is afraid of dolls. These two moms have differing views too, what so you think about the Elf?

I often get lost clicking around the internet, but this time, I stumbled upon something awesome. This list of gift ideas for men is epic. There are 101, and I challenge you to not be inspired when you read it. Shopping for the hardest person to buy for (at least in my house) is already tough, but this list, written by a man, should give you a push in the right direction.

I’m not a video gamer. The last time I played a video game was on our first family computer, a commodore vic 20, back in the 80’s. (Tetris on my phone being the one exception of course.) I’m not purposefully keeping our kids off the video games but given our lack of interest they just haven’t had much exposure. I read this article about kids learn when they play minecraft very interesting, it sure got me thinking. (Thanks for sharing the article @s_scale)

Have you heard of rainbow babies? This is a brand new one for me. I didn’t realize there was a name for babies born following stillbirth, miscarriage, neonatal death, or infant loss. I have personal experience with infertility and rainbow babies so this story of a mama talking about the guilt that can come with rainbow babies hit home with me.
