DESCRIPTION:Join us on Family Day at Ireland House Museum for a Victorian Board Game Café! Try playing games that the Ireland family would have enjoyed during the Victorian era\, like chess\, checkers\, snakes & ladders\, and cribbage. \nVictorian parlour games will also be available to play throughout the historic home\, and families can take turns trying old-fashioned children’s toys. There will also be games from the historic collection on display as you tour the museum. Whether you’re a seasoned player or trying these games for the first time\, staff and volunteers will be on site to help explain the rules and get you started. \nBeverages and baked goods will be available for purchase in the Oakridge Interpretive Centre. Ticket includes admission to Ireland House Museum and access to all available games. Pre-registration is recommended. There are two timeslots available to book: 10am and 12pm.

DESCRIPTION:Learn the art of needle felting figures by shaping wool into a cheeky Gnome ornament! Fibre artist and instructor Cathy Disbrow will teach you how to wrap wool into a cone shape on a skewer\, properly attach the beard locks\, how to sculpt wool to create a nose and stab attach it on. These gnomes are fun decor and perfect gifts for the upcoming holiday season. Gnome is approx. 3.5” tall. Wool and 2 felting needles are included in the cost. Foam felting pads are provided for students to use during class and can be purchased separately. Participants will have the option of touring Ireland House Museum before the workshop (12pm). Light refreshments included. This workshop is suitable for ages 16+.

DESCRIPTION:Join Sugar and Stuff to learn the basics of sugar cookies and decorate 6 Hallowe’en-themed cookies to get in the mood for spooky season! The 1.5 hour workshop will include piping practice with Royal Icing\, information about the best ways to decorate sugar cookies\, and will cover the general concepts around dough and icing. Everything you’ll need is provided in class – just bring a smile (and maybe an apron). You’ll leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies\, your set of 6 beautifully decorated cookies\, and a Sugar and Stuff cookie to enjoy during class. Participants will also have the opportunity to take a tour of Ireland House Museum decorated in mourning\, while learning all about Victorian funerary traditions after the workshop (3:00pm).
