
Family Day at the Oakville Historical Society

Explore what life was like for 19th Century children at school and at play. Try out some “old time” activities!
Activities Include: Give Cursive a Chance! Take a seat in our old school desks and try your hand at cursive writing with chalk on an old school slate! Come in and challenge your family members to some of the most popular parlour games of the late 1800”s – Crokinoke, Checkers, Snakes and Ladders or Tiddlywinks! OHS volunteer members have joined forced with the Museum staff in the Coach House to present a salute to our shipping and harbour heritage. Build a cork boat, create and colour nautical and country flags, learn to tie some sailor’s knots and enjoy a display of the history of our harbours by Phil Brimacombe.
Visit the Oakville Museum for a guided tour of Erchless Estate. Learn about Oakville’s founding family and gain insight into the town’s past, including a fascinating glimpse into Oakville’s Black History. Available every half hour from 1 to 4 p.m.
Create a yarn wrapped butterfly to welcome in spring with a special guest artist. This is a parented workshop is for ages 5 to 12. Available at 1:30 and 3 p.m.
