SUMMARY:Elf at the Westdale
DESCRIPTION:Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa’s sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later\, as an adult who happened to be raised by elves\, Santa allows him to go on a quest to find his birth father Walter Hobbs. Walter\, who is on Santa’s naughty list for being a heartless jerk\, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy\, meanwhile\, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When he finally meets Walter\, both of them begin to reevaluate their relationship and their priorities to their jobs.

SUMMARY:White Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Originally Shown at the Westdale! (Jan. 19-20\, 1962) \nAfter World War II\, song and dance men Bob Wallace and Phil Davis form a successful partnership\, eventually becoming top Broadway producers. Bob agrees to take in a nightclub act by the Haynes Sisters\, Betty and Judy\, as a favour (so he thinks)\, for their brother who served with Bob and Phil in the war. While Phil realizes that Bob has become smitten with Betty\, he arranges for them to accompany the sisters to their next show at a small inn in Vermont. Little do they realize that the owner of the inn is Major General Tom Waverley\, their old commanding officer\, who is unfortunately on the verge of shutting down his beloved inn if the snow prevents people from attending the show. They come up with a plan for a Christmas show to help the Major General out\, but a misunderstanding leads to a rift between Bob and Betty\, leaving it to Phil and Judy to try and get them back together.

SUMMARY:Little Amelie\, or the Character of the Rain (Dubbed)
DESCRIPTION:Nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Animated Motion Picture! \n‘Dubbed’ screenings will be presented with an English soundtrack. \nFor the first three years of life\, a child is closer to the divine than the human. That’s the belief of baby Amelie\, at least\, born to Belgian parents stationed in Japan in the early 1960s. Her first\, transcendent\, taste of Belgian chocolate (a gift from visiting Granny) seals the deal: Amelie is a god. She’s also something of a monster – compelling her parents to engage a nanny\, Nishio-San\, to preserve their sanity and restore order to the household. It’s Nishio-San whose influence will shape the evolution of the toddler to the next stage of childhood. \nAdapted from Amelie Nothomb’s 2000 memoir The Character of Rain and influenced by both western and Japanese aesthetics\, this delicately animated feature is robustly amusing\, shaded with profound emotional truths.

SUMMARY:The Sound of Music at the Westdale
DESCRIPTION:Originally Shown at the Westdale! (Oct. 4-18\, 1975) \nIn 1930s Austria\, a young woman named Maria (Julie Andrews) is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When Navy Captain Georg Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) writes to the abbey asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children\, Maria is given the job. His wife is dead\, he is often away\, and he runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sails on. The children are unhappy and resentful of the governesses that he keeps hiring and have managed to run each of them off one by one. When Maria arrives\, she is initially met with the same hostility\, but her kindness\, understanding\, and sense of fun soon draws the children to her and brings some much-needed joy into all their lives\, including the Captain’s. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love\, and their romance makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made. Their personal conflicts soon become overshadowed\, however\, as Austria is about to come under Nazi Germany’s control\, and the Captain may soon find himself drafted into the German Navy and forced to fight against his own country.

SUMMARY:Little Amelie - the Character of Rain (Subbed)
DESCRIPTION:Nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Animated Motion Picture! \n‘Subbed’ screenings will be presented with the original French soundtrack and English subtitles.
